Strategic investments support microelectronics, battery manufacturing, and energy storage.
The Department of Defense (DoD) awarded six Defense Manufacturing Community Support Program (DMCSP) grants, totaling approximately $30 million, supported by the Office of Local Defense Community Cooperation (OLDCC). These grants are part of a long-term initiative to invest in skills, facilities, workforce development, research, development, and small business support, designed to enhance the national security innovation base.
The awards are intended to support advanced manufacturing capabilities in defense-critical sectors. Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment, William LaPlante emphasized the importance of a resilient manufacturing base. Assistant Secretary of Defense for Industrial Base Policy Laura Taylor-Kale highlighted the collaboration between public, private, and academic partners as pivotal for supporting innovation in defense manufacturing.
“These grant awards are focused in defense-critical sectors, from battery and energy storage to microelectronics and castings and forgings,” said Assistant Secretary Laura Taylor-Kale. “These projects highlight the important innovation ecosystem that exists between public, private, and academic partners, and DoD looks forward to following the progress on each of these initiatives.”
The funded projects include projects in energy storage, advanced manufacturing technologies, defense space technology, the microelectronics industry, submarine production, and U.S. military supply chain enhancement.
